How do I get my wired headset mic to work on my PC ?

If your headset (earphones) mic is not working on pc but the headset is good, then you are at right place. Here we are not talking about USB headset

What is the Problem ?

3.5 mm JAck

Above 3.5 mm jack has three strips which means it is stereo and can take mic input, if there is two strips then it is stereo but no mic input and if there is one strip then it has mono channel. Stereo + mic input port is most commonly seen in mobile phones and latest laptop/pc.
If your PC has different port for headset and mic as shown in the picture, then you will be able to use only headset by connected connected your 3.5 mm headset jack but the mic would not work because this will only support stereo channel output as there is no pin inside the port which will make contact  with the 3rd strip which is responsible for microphone input.
